NETWORK CUBA GERMANY Open letter of the board on US-policies against Cuba
to U.S. Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton
cc: President Barak Obama
Dear Secretary Clinton:
We are gravely concerned that the Department of State continues to deny visas to citizens from Cuba and to cooperate with obsessive enemies of Cuba like the U.S. Congresswoman Ros-Lethinen. Hate-mongerers like her only wish to hinder citizens as well as foreigners with a different view to exchange ideas, to inform about the world beyond the belt-way, to under stand other political cultures. People like her only wish to promote anti-Cuban propaganda and undermine Cuban society and national security interests.
Ms. Ros-Lethinen already had sent you a letter in October 2011, where she agitated against a children theatre group from Cuba who played pieces of high concern for them, i.e. about the “CUBAN FIVE”. And now it has come to our attention that Congresswoman Ros-Lethinen again wrote to you – this time because of the Cuban music group Nueva Trova Cubana which received U.S. visa. She argues as if those children and now the musicians would be a threat to the U.S. --- But really, almost nobody outside Florida knows in the U.S. about that scandalous case of these five brave young Cubans who wanted to make their country saver against terrorist and criminal attacks originating in Florida. They were not spies as Ros-Lethinen claims, they just collected information from criminal and terrorist Exile Cuban groups in Florida. It is indicative that Congresswoman Ros-Lethinen does not mention these facts, that she totally misrepresents the case – again and again.
Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González are away from their families for more than 14 years now for the sole reason that they have tried to save their country Cuba from criminal and terrorist attacks from your country, the U.S., specifically from extremist organizations in Florida. We would like to remind you of the concerns on the CUBAN 5 having been raised by organisations like Amnesty International and the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
We are aware that for more than 50 years the Cuba policy of the U.S. governments is dominated by conservative exile-Cubans like Ms. Ros-Lethinen and rightwing extremists, and any progress for improved relations has been blocked by them. This should end. We herewith strongly urge you to free the Cuban Five immediately.
